cincinnati chapter

Urban Wilderness began in Cincinnati, where the program continues to grow today. This chapter currently partners with 33 schools annually and has worked with over 100 schools throughout the region. Through local parks and waterways, students are often introduced for the first time to the outdoor spaces and natural resources that exist within their own community.

Kyle Siebert

From boatbuilding to outdoor field trip experiences, the Cincinnati Urban Wilderness team works hard to connect students with hands-on learning opportunities. Trace serves as Director of Urban Wilderness, while Madlen coordinates field trips and grant initiatives that help expand opportunities for students. Luke oversees canoe-kit milling, other woodworking projects, and will be head of the Shuman Urban Wilderness Center, set to open in Fall 2026. Kyle and Silas support boatbuilds, field trips, and day-to-day programming, helping create meaningful outdoor experiences for students throughout the year.

Schools & Partners

Over the past 10 years, Urban Wilderness Cincinnati has continued to grow, partnering with more schools and community organizations each year through hands-on outdoor education and boatbuilding programming. Alongside long-standing relationships throughout the Cincinnati area, our traveling program has also expanded opportunities for students and educators in cities including Chicago, Charleston, and St. Louis. One of our strongest and longest-standing partnerships is with Aiken High School, where years of collaboration have led to the future home of the Shuman Urban Wilderness Center being built directly on campus.
