News Recap: Ceremony at Aiken High School

by Kyle Oblong

Although it was a cold February morning, the warmth and excitement at our recent groundbreaking ceremony kept spirits high; the coffee and hot cocoa provided by Aiken students also helped! With thoughtful remarks from Aiken High School leadership, Cincinnati Public Schools board members, Roy Shuman, members of our own team, our partners at Messer Construction, and all those who joined us to celebrate, the morning marked an important milestone in bringing the Shuman Urban Wilderness Center to life as shovels hit the dirt, and snow, for the first time.

We’re also excited to share that WCPO 9 News captured the energy of the morning in a video segment that brings the celebration to life, showcasing the community support and vision behind the Shuman Urban Wilderness Center.

In addition, the groundbreaking ceremony received local news coverage. WVXU highlighted the event in a feature article, where Isabel shares how the new center will expand hands-on, outdoor education opportunities for students—creating space to learn skills like woodworking, canoe building, and environmental stewardship right on their school campus.
