Launching of our new publication: The yoke

by Kyle Oblong

We are excited to announce the release of the Urban Wilderness Program’s first-ever publication, The Yoke! This physical, and online, magazine captures highlights from the past school year, celebrating the growth, creativity, and impact of our program across schools and communities.

The name The Yoke was inspired by the center beam of a canoe—an essential piece that helps carry the canoe across challenging terrain. In the same way, the Urban Wilderness Program serves as a “yoke,” guiding youth through meaningful outdoor experiences that build resilience, leadership, and a lifelong love of nature. The first edition of The Yoke was shared earlier this year with our donors, partners, and community supporters. Inside, readers will find stories of canoe building in schools, reflections from students and teachers, a look at our outdoor program, and a glimpse at the many partnerships that make this work possible

Trace Dunning, Director of the Urban Wilderness Program, shared his vision for the publication: “We hope the stories inside highlight and celebrate the dedication of everyone involved with the Urban Wilderness Program, and we look forward to many more publications to come.”
